5 Points Intersection Project

The 5 Points Intersection Project is currently awaiting approvals from various agencies involved in the design and construction. The improvements to the intersection at JBR/Memorial, Ponce de Leon and Silver Hill Roads will have a significant impact on the travel times at peak hours resulting in a significant reduction in time and fuel for everyone traveling through this intersection. The following data is from Mayor Gary Peet:

Based upon recommended benefit values from the Congestion Mitigation Task Forceš, the annual time savings and fuel savings for this project would be $9,224,371.00 for the two peak traffic hours in the morning and afternoon on Main Street.

The economic impact is huge due to the fact that travel times through the intersection at peak traffic hours will be reduced by over eight minutes per vehicle. There are few projects in the metro area that can produce these results.

Note 1:  The Congestion Mitigation Task Force is made up of representatives of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) and the Georgia State Tollway Authority (GTA).
